Olympus Introduces the New OmniScan MXU-M-2.2 Software

Olympus, a world leader in nondestructive testing technologies and pioneer in industrial phased array ultrasound, is pleased to introduce the MXU-M-2.2 software for the OmniScan® M Phased Array flaw detector series.

A new feature of the phased array ultrasound software is the position encoded or time-based scanning capability on a single direction axis. This allows the operator to collect, store, and analyze inspection data illustrated in a C-scan view. This encoding feature will be very useful wherever limited encoding capabilities are required to satisfy code requirements. Other enhancements of the new software include a high A-scan refresh rate, a simplified user interface, and full upgradeability to a semiautomated or automated OmniScan MXU system.

The Standard Version of MXU-M-2.2 software includes the single-axis encoded or time-based C-scan; DAC/TCG, ASME, JIS, and DGS sizing curves; and AWS and API code wizards. The Weld Package option includes all the functions of the Standard version as well as the innovative RayTracingTM feature that simplifies data interpretations for manual weld inspections and reduces the time needed for training. The Weld Package also includes the Weld Overlay feature that superimposes the weld geometry in the S-scan view, which provides a visual display of the phased array beams and defect indications in the weld bevel.

This new software has been developed for inspectors who eventually want to transition from conventional ultrasound or manual phased array inspections to semiautomated or fully automated inspections. As an incentive, within a year after purchasing the MXU-M software module, Olympus will provide a full credit towards the purchase of the MXU module. Since all OmniScan modules use the same MX mainframe, this upgrade provides many benefits in terms of cost, training, and instrument operation.
