Simple Steps to Start Using the X3 RCS
An annual subscription fee applies. Contact your Evident sales representative for details. |
Connect and Collaborate: It’s That SimpleRemote Support Directly on the OmniScan X3 Unit![]() ![]() ![]() On your OmniScan X3 unit, open the X3 RCS app and invite remote collaborators to a meeting. They receive an email with an invitation to click a link to attend. Using any Zoom-compatible portable or smart device with a camera, you scan the QR code on the OmniScan X3 screen to join the meeting using your device’s video and audio. You can also then aim your portable device’s camera at your surroundings to show the other meeting participants a live view of the inspection configuration or conditions (for example, the part, weld, corrosion, probes, etc.). |
Communicate Efficiently by Showing What You MeanRemote Control and Annotation Tools to Assist Inspectors in the FieldRather than explaining, save time by demonstrating. A meeting participant on a PC or laptop can support the OmniScan X3 operator by requesting to take control of the host unit. After the operator accepts, the external collaborator can remotely control the flaw detector and access all menus, including start and stop acquisition. Meeting participants can also make annotations on the results, displayed for all participants to see, both on the OmniScan X3 screen and the shared screen shown on the remote collaborators’ devices. |

FAQs about the X3 RCSQ: How can I get an X3 RCS registration PIN?A: Please contact your Evident sales representative to obtain your registration PIN. Q: Is the X3 RCS PIN the same as the one used to register my OmniScan X3 unit on the Olympus Scientific Cloud™ (OSC) platform?A: No, the PINs for each service are different. The OSC PIN is used to verify the OmniScan X3 unit associated with the account, and the X3 RCS PIN connects the OSC account to the subscription. Q: Who can sign up for a X3 RCS subscription?A: An OSC administrator account is required to initiate, cancel, or modify an X3 RCS subscription. Q: What is the advantage of a floating license?A: A floating license is associated to the user rather than the individual device. This means a user with more than one OmniScan X3 unit can use their license with any units they’ve registered to their account. Q: Does this mean I only need one license for all my OmniScan X3 flaw detectors?A: It depends, because only one OmniScan X3 series device can use the floating license at a time. This means that the first device must be disconnected before the license is available for another device. Two licenses are required to use the X3 RCS on two devices simultaneously. Q: Can two OmniScan X3 units be connected to the same X3 RCS meeting?A: No. Each X3 RCS meeting is initiated from one OmniScan X3 unit and another OmniScan X3 device cannot be invited into an existing meeting. Q: Do I need any other devices to be able to use the X3 RCS?A: No. The X3 RCS can be operated exclusively using the OmniScan X3 user interface. However, since OmniScan X3 units don’t have a microphone, if the user wants to talk to meeting participants, a portable or smart device with a mic and a camera can be easily linked to the meeting using the on-screen QR code. Q: What external devices can be connected to an X3 RCS meeting?A: You can join a meeting using any device that you can use with Zoom (though you do not need to have the Zoom app installed). This includes desktop computers, laptops, tablets, smart phones, smart glasses, etc. Q: Can I access or save my contacts on the OmniScan X3 unit?A: No, but after another device has been connected to the meeting, that device’s user can invite participants to the meeting using its contact list (for example, the user can scan the QC code with a smart phone and then send invitations to contacts saved on that smart phone.) Q: How many devices can be connected to a meeting at once?A: 8 devices total can connect to an X3 RCS videoconference meeting, including the OmniScan X3 unit that is the host. The OmniScan X3 user invites guests by sending email invitations via the X3 RCS app. The invitation contains a link to join the meeting. The OmniScan X3 user can easily join the meeting with their own portable device by scanning the on-screen QR code. Q: What version of the OmniScan X3 software offers the X3 RCS feature?A: The X3 RCS is available with MXU 5.9.0 or higher (SystemUpdate 1.4.0 or higher), so update your OmniScan X3 series flaw detector today at www.olympus-ims.com/service-and-support/downloads. If you have more questions, don’t hesitate to fill out the Contact Us form or contact your local Evident representative directly. |
Security
Application GatewayThe Azure Application Gateway has a web application firewall (WAF) that monitors for threats and exploitation, such as SQL injection and cross-site scripting. The WAF is based on the Core Rule Set (CRS) 3.1 from the Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP). For even greater security, Microsoft data scientists use machine learning, behavioral analytics, and application-based intelligence to analyze patterns and detect threats faster. | API Management SecurityThe OSC is housed in an isolated environment with an allocated set of resources through Azure API Management. The API acts as a security wall between our applications and databases, improving the OSC’s performance and privacy. |
Identity and Access ManagementUser authentication and authorization are the OSC’s primary security perimeters. Access to the OSC is controlled by Azure's identity management service, Azure AD B2C. The user authentication data and user database are stored in separate locations to prevent combined data risk. Microsoft also provides an identity secure score that we use to plan our routine security reviews and improvements. | Network SecurityThe perimeter network architecture enables us to segment the network—our applications are behind the WAF while the SQL database and data storage are behind the OSC Platform APIs. This segmentation adds layers of network security to help prevent unauthorized access to data. In addition, Microsoft offers protection against distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks that exhaust the application’s resources and make it unavailable for authorized users. |
Threat ProtectionThe Azure Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) monitors and profiles user activities, protects user identities and credentials, identifies and investigates suspicious user behavior, and provides detailed incident information. The SQL database protects your data by providing auditing and threat detection capabilities. Auditing allows us to monitor user log ins and activities within the database to check for potential threats or suspected abuse and security violations, helping protect your data from misuse. Alerts are set to warn us of any suspicious activities to facilitate data security and confidentiality. | End-to-End Data EncryptionA crucial OSC security feature is that data is encrypted both in transit and at rest so that if there was a security breach, the data would be unusable to unauthorized users. Another key feature—client-side encryption—encrypts data in the client location before it is stored in the SQL database and then decrypts it at the client location once retrieved from the SQL database. This feature enables you to maintain a separation between those who own and can view the data (you) and those who manage but don’t have access to the data (Olympus). Azure also has a feature called blob storage for storing unstructured data, such as zip files, in a binary format. All data written to Azure storage—both the SQL Database and blob—is automatically encrypted. |
IPM App
Inspection Project ManagerThe Inspection Project Manager (IPM) web app transforms inspection workflows by making them agile and efficient. The intuitive and modern user interface is easy to learn and provides specific functionality based on your role in the Cloud tenant. Users see only what’s important for them while admins can build out projects how they’d like with additional features:
The IPM app also simplifies data transfer. Inspectors in the field can connect their Olympus industrial devices to a wireless local area network or mobile hotspot to receive survey files and export completed work back to the project office via the IPM app. The result is faster reporting and decision making. | ![]() |
IPM App Benefits

![]() | IPM Mobile AppThe mobile app allows inspectors to see which Tasks are assigned to them. They can see which files have been deployed to their device, or if a Task with an interactive isometric has been assigned to them. With the mobile app, inspectors can update the isometric drawings while in the field, add photos, and create visual events. Specifications
