The GLIDER Manual X-Y Scanner for Composite Inspection

Waltham, MA, USA, July, 2007 - Olympus NDT, a world leader in nondestructive testing technologies, is pleased to introduce the GLIDER, the latest generation of a manual 2-axis encoding scanner designed primarily for the inspection of composite and aluminum aircraft parts such as fuselages. The GLIDER offers significant advantages due to its cost-efficient design, multi-technology capability, and lightweight but rugged construction.
The GLIDER is compatible with phased array (PA) or conventional ultrasonic (UT) probes as well as conventional eddy current (EC) and eddy current array (ECA) probes. Both axes offer a free-running, incremental, or lock mode. The standard, pivot-equipped suction-cup pods enable contour following on curved surfaces while the optional magnetic mounting pods extend the versatility of this scanner to corrosion-mapping applications involving ferromagnetic materials.
With a light, aluminum frame and removable index arm, the GLIDER can easily be transported or reassembled for use on multiple parts. The GLIDER is available in three sizes: GLIDER 18×18, GLIDER 24×24, and GLIDER 36×36, providing scan areas of 46 cm × 46 cm, 61 cm × 61 cm, and 91 cm × 91 cm respectively. The GLIDER will interface with the OmniScan modular flaw detector or any other data acquisition system.
The new GLIDER manual X-Y scanner is yet another important Olympus NDT product in its ongoing commitment to provide the aerospace market with a full portfolio of high-quality testing instruments and accessories.
The new GLIDER is available immediately from Olympus NDT`s offices and sales representatives worldwide.
