EN Level 2 in Ultrasonic Phased Arrays

This is an 80 hour (2 week) course, based on a portable phased array unit, which requires understanding on how to set up and interpret phased arrays.
The course will cover: principles of phased arrays, the OmniScan instrument, scanning, calibration, software, data analysis principles, and views.
Specialized inspections will be addressed, e.g. turbines, tubes, pipelines, bars and complex geometries.
Examination will be by multiple choice questions on the three areas of Castings, Wrought Products and Welds. Assembly of equipment, testing, interpretation of data and development of a suitable phased array procedure is also required.

The certification exam at the end of the course comprise of the following:

Multiple choice theory exam
Data collection exam: This requires assembly and calibration of the equipment with appropriate arrays, wedges and encoders followed by collection of data from a weld and a cast or wrought product. The data shall be saved in a format to be analyzed.
Data analysis: Analysis of electronic data sets from weldments, castings and wrought products. The data shall be analyzed using offline computer software such as 'Tomoview'.
