The new Panametrics-NDT EPOCH XT Ultrasonic Flaw Detector, from Olympus NDT, is designed for great inspection flexibility and for use in extreme environments. Its high environmental rating of IP67 means that the EPOCH XT is completely protected from dust and can be immersed in water up to 1 meter deep. The rating permits flaw detection, weld inspection, or thickness gauging in very wet and humid environments such as offshore drilling and in very dusty work spaces or desert-like conditions. In addition, the EPOCH XT offers many battery options, from long-lasting Lithium Ion and NiMH batteries to standard alkaline C-cells for operation in remote locations.

The EPOCH XT features a multi-color LCD with QVGA resolution with full/split screen views and a 60 Hz update rate. The unit has two USB ports; one is a host port for connecting to peripheral devices such as printers and a client port for inspection data transfer to the GageView Pro interface program. An on-board data logger allows storage of inspection data.

The EPOCH XT incorporates many standard measurement features including a tunable square wave pulser, selectable narrow band and broad band filters, gain range form 0 to 110 dB, peak memory and peak hold, adjustable PRF, 0.001 in. (0.01 mm) measurement resolution, and two gates with programmable alarms. In addition, the unit offers several application-specific software options that can be remotely activated after delivery of the unit: DAC/TVG (Distance Amplitude Correction/ Time Varied Gain), On-board DGS/AVG, AWS D1.1 & D1.5, API 5UE, Curved Surface Correction, and GageView Pro.
